Easter morning 2010 was beautiful as the Warriors gathered at Post 3917 for their annual Blessing of the Bikes and Bobby Clark Memorial Ride.  The post hosted breakfast for all of us. As we sat around spending time catching up with each other swapping war stories and ride stories, Todd, the President of the Veterans MC walked in with a guest.

I walked up to greet him and he introduced me to a petite beautiful young woman.  Her name was Amy Clark, the widow of Bobby.  During my five years with the Warriors and participating in ride each year to honor Bobby, his service to this country and his contributions to the Warriors, this was the first time that she had joined us on the ride.  She explained that she had tried to join us last year but a last minute change in schedule had prevented her.  She went on to say that she was in town to purchase a home because she was being reassigned to Colorado Springs and looked forward to join us for future rides.

What an honor it was to meet her in person and have her join us for the ride.

After a stirring blessing by our Chaplin “Slowhand” we lined up in preparation for the ride with Todd, Amy and Terry taking the lead.  The roar of the engines shook me out of the lethargy of just having breakfast and set my heart pounding. The long line of bikes maneuvered out of the parking lot onto Academy Blvd then on to Highway 115.  As we headed down 115 the line of bikes stretched out nearly ¼ mile in front of me watching the bikes snake gracefully through the canyon, I got lost in the moment.

We arrived at the monument erected for Bobby which had been recently refurbished by Terry, and spend time in solemn silence rearranging the floral displays while Amy wrapped a garland around her late husband’s marker in a symbolic embrace.

Terry’s eulogy spoke of Bobby’s contribution to the Warriors, his service to our nation and his close personal relationship with Boyd and Todd.  After a moment of silence, Amy spent time in silent repose and private reflection of the man that she loved.

We will never forget Bobby Clark.
